A professional photograph relays trust and confidence; it communicates professionalism and expertise; it shows that you are approachable; it is part of the brand recognition process; and it translates into sales. Many real estate agents don’t realize how important a great photo is to their business, their reputation and their future sales. Make sure your photo is the appropriate up-to-date representation of your personality and your selling style. A good photo can be the deciding factor on whether a client comes your way or not.

How do your ensure that you get a great photo?

Update your photo at least once a year. Don’t go any longer than two years between shoots.

 Think about how you want to be perceived  and dress accordingly,  (ie. stylish, practical,  casual, elegant,  sharp, official, businesslike, etc.)

Ladies: Don’t wear too much makeup and don’t over-glamorize the jewelry. Make it simple and be natural.

Guys: Don’t make a significant style change such as color of your hair or beard, get a different haircut, add a toupee, or grow facial hair: unless you plan to keep that look until your next photo shoot.

Be creative and comfortable with your photo position and location. if you aren’t comfortable, it will show in the photo. Try seated and standing positions: get full body, 3/4 and headshots. Get your photos done from different angles.

Make sure your clothes fit properly. Don’t wear anything with a logo. Avoid trendy or dated colors, patterns or adornment.

Look into the camera and not off to the side. People connect with our eyes. Take a deep breath, and relax. 

Make sure there is nothing that can detract from YOU! This includes background scenery or props. If you must remember anything, remember that these are meant to be very relaxed, candid, warm, open HONEST images of you. Look into the camera, offer a warm,  but not overly friendly smile. Emit a feeling of safety, as though you were seeing an old relative you haven’t seen in a long time. Just be a real human being, and forget being a star!
